Lambing time is here!

2024 will be an exciting year for our flock of Dorper Sheep.

We are SO excited to welcome a new group of lambs this spring! Our farm had a very impressive dorper ram visit last fall to breed our ewe flock. He will compliment our ewes well while maintaining good conformation, production, and mothering abilities. We will have dorper sheep available to go to their own flocks late June/early July. You can stay most up to date on this year’s lambs on our facebook page.

We have also submitted a request for a South African judge to visit our farm and “type” our breeding stock. We have been breeding towards this opportunity and will be excited to learn about how our flock compares to the breed standards and where to take our genetics next.

As far as the border collies and their 2024 trial plans…. Jess is successfully recovering from a back injury sustained at a trial when she went through some rough snow banks this winter. This will be our first year competing in Open and are equal parts excited and nervous. Lad, will be competing lightly in nursery to gain experience on different types of sheep. Maeve will continue training and hopefully helping during lambing where she can. At this time, we are considering a litter of puppies either late 2024 or summer 2025.

We hope everyone has a great spring! – The Powell Family
